Alan Brookes Director of Operations at The Energy Consortium (TEC)

For the past 20 years, Alan has held senior management positions as UK and European head of procurement for a number of private sector organizations, with budgetary responsibility for over £100M per annum and management responsibility for up to 20 personnel. Alan joined The Energy Consortium (TEC) in November 2007 and, since he’s been with the ‘not for profit’ consortium, has been instrumental in developing and implementing flexible managed contracts for energy in the public sector, and more specifically in higher and further education. He sits on the OGC/Treasury Energy Strategy Team, contributing to the pan-Government agenda.

Alan is an authority in procurement and has spoken at many high profile events on topics ranging from fixed vs flexible contracts in energy procurement, risk management, and the management of EU-ETS. He has a Dip.I.M (PG) and graduated as a Bachelor of Science, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Insitute.

Dean Marsh MCIPS Senior Account Executive for Team North

Dean is a seasoned procurement expert with over seventeen years experience in this line of work. He has been with The Energy Consortium (TEC) for well over seven years and currently heads up the contracting team looking after member interests in higher and further education institutions in northern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and Wales. Ably supported by team members Linda Wardman and Penny Coy, Dean manages all aspects of energy procurement, energy data management and related activities for members.

Prior to joining TEC, Dean worked for a large multinational automotive company supplying Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW Mini and Noble. While there, he was responsible for facilities and general services and direct materials.

The rest of Dean’s procurement knowledge and expertise has been achieved working as a production/facilities buyer for a variety of manufacturers, in fields as diverse as beverage systems to disability aids.

Dean is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing.

Gary Ward Senior Account Executive for Team South

Gary has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the energy sector and rejoined TEC in 2009 to lead the contracting team covering southern England. With the support of Julie Kender and Tajinder Bharmra, Gary looks after energy procurement, energy data management and other related activities for TEC’s higher and further education members.

Prior to rejoining TEC, Gary worked for three years for the Department for Education where he was responsible for supplier issues in the launch of OPEN, an online marketplace for educational needs in the Midlands. Before that, he’d spent eight years at TEC performing a key role in the contracts team.

There’s little Gary doesn’t know about energy procurement accumulated from a career incorporating energy analysis at McKinnon & Clarke and many years with British Gas where he fulfilled varied roles including internal auditing, marketing and economic planning.

Gary has a BA in Economics and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
