Richard Murphy Managing Director      shshhss


Richard has a wealth of experience from both supplier and buyer sides of the energy market. In almost 24 years in the energy sector he has worked in many areas of including strategy and regulation, purchasing, and management.

Between early 2008 and late 2011 Richard established and ran flexible energy trading and procurement frameworks at Government Procurement Services (formerly OGC Buying Solutions) where he and his team secured forward energy and significant savings on the largest single energy portfolio in the UK market with transaction limits of up to £20 million per day.

During his time working for UK gas supplier Amerada (now part of Eon’s UK supply business) Richard was a key member of a team which introduced the first flexible purchasing contracts for gas as long ago as 1998.

Richard has also worked extensively in the private sector for businesses successfully providing energy solutions to a large and varied client base, including bureau services, software and data systems and innovative procurement solutions to consortia. 

Alan Brookes Director of Operations & Compliance  

For the past 20 years, Alan has held senior management positions as UK and European head of procurement for a number of private sector organizations, with budgetary responsibility for over £100M per annum and management responsibility for up to 20 personnel. Alan joined The Energy Consortium (TEC) in November 2007 and, since he’s been with the ‘not for profit’ consortium, has been instrumental in developing and implementing flexible managed contracts for energy in the public sector, and more specifically in higher and further education.  

Alan is an authority in procurement and has spoken at many high profile events on topics ranging from fixed vs flexible contracts in energy procurement, risk management, and the management of EU-ETS. He has a Dip.I.M (PG) and graduated as a Bachelor of Science, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply.

 

Steve Creighton Senior Relationship & Business Development Manager 
 

Steve Creighton joins TEC with extensive experience in the energy sector having held several senior management roles within the field. His wealth of experience, particularly in the public sector, includes 10 years as a senior manager in the field of energy supply, renewable energy and associated services.

Prior to specialising in Energy, Steve spent several years in procurement at Xerox where he held management positions in their global supply chain before moving into the Civil Service to manage the NHS energy supply needs in England. His role here included taking the whole of the NHS energy portfolio onto a flexible, risk managed solution. He then managed the subsequent successful transfer of the portfolio to Buying Solutions (now Crown Commercial Services).

Steve represented the Health sector on the Pan-Government Energy Project that achieved the goal of designing how the public sector should procure and manage its energy. The success of this work led the team to winning the Procurement Award and the Cabinet Secretary’s Award at the Civil Service Awards.

Previous to joining TEC Steve worked in the renewable energy sector primarily in Solar PV on large scale solar farms, multi-property housing schemes and community energy schemes. 

Gary Ward Senior Member Relationship Executive 
 

Gary has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the energy sector and rejoined TEC in 2009 to lead the contracting team covering southern England.Gary looks after the Flexible Energy procurementportfolio, Management of Supplier Relationships, Growth in New Business and other related activities for TEC’s higher and further education members.Prior to rejoining TEC, Gary worked for three years for the Department for Education where he was responsible for supplier issues in the launch of OPEN, an online marketplace for educational needs in the Midlands. Before that, he’d spent eight years at TEC performing a key role in the contracts team.

There’s little Gary doesn’t know about energy procurement accumulated from a career incorporating energy analysis at McKinnon & Clarke and many years with British Gas where he fulfilled varied roles including internal auditing, marketing and economic planning.

Gary has a BA in Economics and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
